Venice Biennale -

Liechtenstein Parliament in Austrian Pavilion

Austria reflects on parliament buildings as a physical manifestation of democratic societies in its 2015 Biennale di Architettura pavilion. Our studio's design for the small principality's humble state forum and assembly is included in a global array of this typology. A reduction to each respective building mass spares its critical contextual elements, which bears the typical contemporary problematic of reducing essences to the consideration of buildings as isolated objects. Einstein's advice, 'everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler' matters. As a result of our intense collaboration it is the Principality of Liechtenstein's noble accomplishment to have manifested its unique take on materializing res publica by making an ensemble for an urban place and space by virtue of a  forum and a garden as integral components to its massing.
