Master Thesis

Melissa Morris, an intern in our studio, defends her Master Thesis at the University of Tennessee with honors. Agri[culture] - An Alternate Paradigm for the American Landscape addresses a pressing subject of coming to terms with a utilitarian dystopia, exploiting and eroding the simple beauty of pastoral landscapes in Tennessee's Appalachian region. Born and raised on a Tennessee farm, taking farmland of a failed typical subdivision development in a Tennessee River bend as a case study, Melissa Morris explores potentials of embracing future needs, incorporating rural communities, elevating their social and educational culture. In reconnecting this cultivation to regional roots as much as tying it to pristine paradigms, complementing the practical with the picturesque, the rational with the sensual, spanning from Cistercian monasteries to modern vineyards, - this project is very much in tune with our studio's core values. Beginning this August, Melissa Morris will represent our Hamburg branch in Germany.
