Eckert House

Pavilion in the Woods

Tennessee, USA

2012

The humble house that architect Richard Eckert build in the early 1950s for his family, sold and became subject of a contemporary design investigation. The original scheme seems carried by a Katsura spirit. Tugged into Knoxville's south woods above the Tennessee River, the views provide the bucolic context for an ideal pavilion. Composed to relate to this condition in its own way, it takes on the paradigm, yet elevating it to a more open space, blending with its setting.
